Faculty Club Notebooks
Scope and Contents Note
The collection contains five notebooks of the Faculty Club dating from 1929 to 1964. These notebooks give insight into the social activities available to members of the faculty. For instance, the club held regular teas that were sponsored by the various academic departments. They also held dinners and other events like white elephant sales throughout the academic year. The club recognized members’ exceptional service to the college as well as gifted cards, gifts or flowers to faculty members for occasions such as weddings and funerals. Two notebooks hold meeting minutes and one notebook has a list of expenses. There are two notebooks called “Hostess Book,” and they outline the duties of the club’s hostess, who was responsible for organizing the club’s events. There is information regarding the types of events the club organized as well as details such as table settings, food and locations in these notebooks. There is a copy of the Troy New Yorker, which was written by members of the faculty. This publication is a parody of the national magazine, The New York. It is unclear if the Faculty Club was involved in the creation of this publication.
