Historical Note

The Hoffman Lecture in Sociology and Social Policy began in 1983, endowed by a gift from Linda Rosenfeld Hoffman, a Russell Sage College Sociology graduate of the class of 1962. The first Hoffman Lecture took place in 1985. Subsequently, a noted sociologist has visited each year to lecture on a topic of expertise. Speakers have included nationally and internationally known scholars and activists.
